Grammy Award Winners Cheryl Bentyne of Manhattan Transfer and John Jorgenson Lead All-Star Lineup for Jazz at Five 2012

Jazz at Five, the Midwest’s premier free live jazz concert series, begins its 19th season on August 8. The series features five nights of top national, regional, and local jazz artists on Wednesday from 5-8:00 pm at State Street and the Square.

The 2012 series kicks off with acclaimed alto saxophonist Charles McPherson. The series closes four weeks later with Grammy award winner Cheryl Bentyne of the Manhattan Transfer featuring Mark Winkler and supported by a trio of Madison’s top jazz musicians.

Aug 22 MadiSalsa  11 member ensemble devoted to the musical traditions of Cuba and Puerto Rico (Latin jazz). Alison Margaret Quartet w/Jimmy Voegeli on the Hammond B3 organ Gifted jazz singer and pianist (blues jazz).
Aug 29 John Jorgenson Quintet Grammy-winner John Jorgenson toured with Elton John (gypsy swing). The Stellanovas Intimate, swinging jazz with Hawaiian influences (cafe jazz).
Sep 5 Cheryl Bentyne & Mark Winkler Grammy-winner Manhattan Transfer singer Cheryl Bentyne w/ vocalist Mark Winkler (cool jazz). Ray Rideout Quartet   Saxophonist Ray Rideout leads a local jazz quartet (straight jazz).
