The 2019 Jazz at Five Performance Series… Audience members can picnic on the capital lawn while enjoying terrific music and fine Wisconsin evenings. Conversation and camaraderie encouraged.

The season kicks off on Wednesday, August 7th with Madison Band Bad Philosopher featuring Tony Barba playing electric jazz at 5pm. Then, joining us during his tour of the Mid-West from New York is the Ben Rosenblum Sextet with his straight-ahead bop-era jazz at 6:45pm.

On the 14th Madison native, White Shoes, will be bringing their light elusive jazz from Texas – to perform at 5pm. Followed by the great local gypsy jazz band, Harmonious Wail at 6:45.

August 21st is the first ever Jazz at Five “Battle of the Bands”. From 5pm to 8pm the DB Orchestra and the Brew City Big Band will take turns playing jazz classics, who will be the victor Madison or Milwaukee?

Week four, August 28th is UW night featuring Dayna Stephens. The UW Madison Jazz ensemble lead by Director of Jazz Studies and contemporary pianist, Johannes Wallmann, will perform for our 5pm show. At 6:45 enjoy Johannes performing with renowned saxophonist from California, Dayna Stephens.

The last evening, September 4th will feature the Waunakee Big Band bringing big band swing music to the stage at 5pm. Ending the Jazz at Five Performance Series, lead by singer Petra van Nuis from Chicago, is the Recession Seven Quintet with popular Great American Songbook tunes.

Jazz at Five is a unique, free cultural event in downtown Madison now in its 26th year www.jazzatfive.org.

Events start at 4pm with a youth group of Jazz performers – please come early to support our youth performers.  Capital Beer and Porta Bella catering available at all shows.    See you at the show!
