Madison-based jazz vocalist and composer Betsy Ezell has spent a lifetime exploring music, from piano and violin lessons to choir, blues bands, worship leading, and jazz performance. Each experience shaped her artistry and ultimately inspired her to pursue songwriting.

Finding Her Voice

In 2014, Betsy began composing original music, embracing the creative process of writing, revising, and refining songs. Her work led to the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium’s Artistic Development Grant, which supported her project Feminine Blue, exploring the unique voices women bring to jazz. Her debut album, Voices, showcases her passion for storytelling through music.

A Familiar Face in Madison Jazz

Betsy has performed throughout the Madison area, including Cafe CODA, Crescendo, the Memorial Union Terrace, DreamBank Summer Music Series, Strollin’ Middleton, and Jazz at Five. She was also nominated in Madison Magazine’s 2019 Best of Madison poll in the Local Band or Singer — Jazz category.
